DANISH

New story to my ears

"A remarkable case of deliverance from persecution, and of punishment
coming upon the persecutors, is recorded of the Jewish colony at Alexandria
Ptolemy Philopator (B.C. 217), being incensed at the refusal of the high-priest
to admit him into the temple at Jerusalem, returned to Egypt and
cast into prison all the Jews upon whom he could lay his hands. Those of
Alexandria were confined in the Hippodrome, a vast amphitheater used for
gladiatorial shows and public games. The king ordered that they should be
trampled to death by elephants, made furious by wine and stimulating drugs.
For two days the execution was delayed by the drunken carousals of the
king. This interval was spent by the prisoners in ceaseless prayer to God
for deliverance. On the third day the savage beasts, were driven into the
arena and urged upon the prisoners. But, instead of attacking them, they
turned upon the guards and spectators, many of whom were killed, the rest
fleeing in terror. Ptolemy was so impressed by this manifestation of the
Divine power that he ordered the prisoners to be released, restored their
privileges, and, as in the days of Esther and Ahasuerus, gave them permission
to kill their enemies."

UPPER ROOM SHOW

Katrina asked me to get a poster done for the first show at The Upper Room in Renton. This is a type poster galore and a couple snow flakes for the season. I would like to design posters full time, so if anyone out there needs posters done or knows people in need head em my way!

Shake It Photo

Vanja told me over a piece of mushroom/pineapple pizza at Pagliaccis that I needed to download this new iphone app that makes your photos look like a Polaroid snap. It descends into your screen after you take a picture and then you have to shake your phone until it develops, if you don't it will be a black polaroid!

Mona Bone Jakon

While Mdot and I were shooting film around Ballard we stopped by Sonic Boom and right there in the new used section, face out, was this Cat Stevens record Mona Bone Jakon, crisp as the day it was made! 4 BONES later, I'm a very pleased man. I had never heard of this record, it's terrific. Peter Gabriel guest appears on it playing flute?! And on the song "Maybe You're Right" it has this classic old Elton John/Kinks piano part. On the song "I think I see the light" there's this Carol King "I felt the earth move" piano groove, really tasty. The sound of the guitar is like when I put my head down on the guitar to hear the texture of the pick hitting the strings. YUM! This is such a remarkable find!

Noah asked me to do a poster for his Empyrean show coming up with 2 of my other fav artists Karli Fairbanks & Tony Kevin. DANG, that show is gonna be SICK! I'd really really really like to go to it! This morning I was fooling around with shapes and came up with a type image for Karli and decided to make a quick poster out of it too. I love doing posters and my goal is to get screen printing these designs in the very near future!

Tokyo:11 / Paris:10

"Tokyo now has the most Michelin three-star restaurants, overtaking Paris as the world's culinary capital, says the authoritative food guide." -BBC

FRENCH huh? That's bull*@#! No French person would EVER admit to this fact even if it were true. I'm certainly biased of course, phewey!

SKETCHIN

I've been drawing a lot in my Moleskine this tour and will be scanning some to share on the blog later this week. I did this today in the van on the way home. At the middle of the tour the song 'so fresh and so clean clean' was being sung here & there, and today it came back into my head. I saw this image in my head and got to work.

LLB Poster

My friends are playing a show together! Ya'll should go. I just finished this poster and I'm excited about it! I feel like I've been tapping into this graphic vein lately. Maybe it's cuz Ben Blood is around me ( the man of finer things ;D )

Sailor Panigot

My Brother Zachary just graduated from the Navy's boot camp. I created this poster in congratulations :D

Panigot Blood

Yesterday I got to see my brother Elliott for burgers & Barnes/Nobles. I always forget how much bigger he is than me. His hair is crazy long! He is an intelligent kid, we went to check some mags and I was picking up Print/Nylon Guys/Baseline he was picking up Discover, National Geo., and in the science section. His past time reading are all things science/physics. Huh? wow. He than explained why nerves work and all things related to black holes, this was while I was looking at design stuff. It took a lot of energy on my part to understand the jargon and building block principles he was laying down. OH and I found out two sweet things 1) He is a big Raconteur and Dead Weather fan! 2) that he has a date this weekend!

While I was in my bros house I saw my brothers Zac Navy photo! It came in a huge frame, with this metal crest at the bottom, pretty shnazzy. He graduating at the top of his class, with 2 promotions, and an officer title. I'm really really proud of him, he'll be stationed in San Diego so I might be able to see him this Christmas while I'm down in SoCal for LGCs' trip.

Zumi Love

Ben let me shoot with his Zumi the other day in San Luis Obispo. I shot a lot of footage and will start workin on it soon! I took the same snap of these amazing trees to show the diff. between the close/far distinctions available on the camera.

I'm Chewing Again

A little bit ago I went back thru my posts to the start to remember some history and to see any change in me from then till now. The one thing that I realized the most was that having visuals readily available greatly diminished the sharing of my thoughts. I thoroughly enjoy design/visuals and post quite a bit on these. I also thoroughly enjoy spiritual topics/discussions, but these have been pretty much silent since I acquired a camera from my bro as well as the camera on the phone. ALSO my daily hunts of design things/sharing them have overwhelmed the time it takes to share thoughts I'm digesting. In a large way I feel like this is a step back and I'd like to get back to thoughts. I hear the argument of balance on repeat, what all things come down to is discipline. I need this in more areas of my life than in blog posting.

One thing that has been nudging my brain lately is how weary I am of hearing pointed fingers at anything christian by christians/pseudo christians. I got 10 fingers myself that can point and aim with a list prepared, but there's enough critics on both sides already. Is there anything wrong with confrontation in the church? NO. Is there anything wrong with rebuke? NO. I just feel like there are more accusers than doers these days.

I know quite a few people who've been pissed with things that have happened personally or to someone close to them by the church who have overcome it! They confronted the situation, stopped being a victim, they had good people around them to bring balance on the situation and solution, and thru prayer & persistence overcame the wound and now who are stronger in their faith more than ever because they let the love of God be the guide. These are the stories that need to be shared, these are the things that strengthen the bond thru the gifts of the Spirit. If it's all fingers, than it is ALL despair. This quickly oh so quickly turns to fear, and that means our WHOLE focus has been switched, and as the good word says, 'There is NO fear in love". I also know quite a few people who've been pissed/wounded who've never dealt with the issue healthfully who are now outside of church, bitter & complacent. This breaks my heart, it really does. I think responsibility is not just in their hands but to the body of the church as well, to work thru any unjust thing/reason, and while doing so not forgetting the central theme that Jesus is Love, and if we who are called by Him do not have this love in us, we are not known by Him and therefore cannot correctly discern the appropriate steps to bring reconciliation. The church will always receive flack unjustly and rightfully. BOTH are great for shaping the church. It will always be easier to blame than to work through anything, the accuser has done such a wonderful job at making that hook. Our Savior has made away off it,

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matt 11:28-30

Our friend Jesus is saying He'll take the weight of the load, He'll partner with us to get thru whatever it is. This means He'll develop us to show us how to overcome, to work with the fruits of the Spirit, to surrender, to forgive. He WON'T abandon or take it all away, He WILL work with us so we are changed by this partnership. The other hooks we have to come off are these: Will we come to Jesus when we are hurt/pissed? Will we give our wound over to Jesus? Will we surrender? Will we be satisfied with His response when it differs from what we think justice should be?

The discipline I need a lot of help with is when I see something wrong with the church, or something that has been personally done to me, is to think/pray a solution MORE than I do of my accusatory stance. Let's put more into building than helping the fire spread. The accuser has enough hands, I want mine to be for mending.

If you consider me a friend do this for me: Think of anything you've been bottling in or have already shared, pray about them alone and with people you trust (I'd be more than willing to be someone to pray with), Our Abba WILL bring things into peace & order. We all have something that hurts us even those people who have been the accuser against us. Think about that when your anger is getting the best of you, we all got hurt feelings! Pain is the quickest thing to make you selfish, so think about someone else's pain as well, this is a step into mending & holiness.

Today was made out of GOLD. I had amazing time with friends in a lovely place in Cali that i've never been to, and ended the night with homemade crepes by Myoung and company, and jamming with my friend Adam Pasion & his wife Brit. Josh and I made fire in this lovely spot next to his house, and we just finished watching Les Miserables. What a day. WOW. SO RICH!

Saturday, November 7, 2009

I just caught up a bit with an artist whom is pretty mainstream these days and whom we actually played a show with in the past. I caught up with this artist cuz i was looking for a guitarist from a band that split up a couple yrs ago and wanted to see what he was up to. This led me to find out that he was playing for this solo kid. I listened to several of the new songs and was just bored. There was no melody, pure formula, and relied on harmony for strength. ugh. The tipping point was when the artist used the words 'i'm tired of hearing the same old song'. WOW. Bland, mediocre, and taking up space. How is this considered music? Goodness gracious.

I'm surrounded by AMAZING artists whose characters match their music genius. I feel so blessed to be in such company, and I want them to have all/more than what this artist is achieving with crap tunes. Shoot, music needs to return to the Stax days, just sayin', and i want to be apart of that return. The Denouement, Paper Astronomer, Tony Kevin, Karli Fairbanks, Le Wrens, The Globes, Noah G, these kids take the cake. Please don't waste your time with the nonsense out there when there are such incredibly gifted people around locally who are pouring life into a daily struggle to share music with you.

LOGO

Today I set out to create as much as I could for identity without any outside influence. These are some scribbles that I came up with.
